It replaced the Austin Healey Sprite and carried over a lot of the same features, apart from the radiator grille, MG badge and trim differences. Mechanically, it remained similar too with rear suspension using quarter-elliptic leaf springs and trailing arms. Brakes were 7-inch drums all round but changed to disc brakes at the front later. Our Mk III model in real life also benefited from improved springs, a stronger engine block and was fitted with larger main bearings. Also, motorists were treated to external door handles and wind up windows.
